FLETCHER CONGRATULATES GARY DOER ON BEING SELECTED AS NEXT CANADIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE USA

(August 28, 2009) Winnipeg - The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia congratulates Gary Doer on being selected to be the next Canadian Ambassador to the United States of America. “Mr. Doer has had a long and distinguished career in politics,” said Fletcher. “I am confident that he will represent Canadians well in his new role in Washington.” Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced his intention to appoint former Manitoba Premier Gary Doer to serve as the next Canadian Ambassador to the United States. Mr. Doer, who resigned as Premier of Manitoba yesterday, will assume the position of Ambassador following the presentation of his credentials to President Barack Obama. He will succeed Michael Wilson, who served as Canadian Ambassador to the United States since 2006. |
