FLETCHER WELCOMES NEW SENATE REPRESENATION
August 27, 2009
(August 27, 2009) Winnipeg – Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James Assiniboia, welcomes the nine new individuals appointed to the Senate today. These Senators will work hard to pass important anti-crime and democratic reform legislation currently being stalled by the Liberal-dominated Senate.

“Prime Minister Stephen Harper has appointed nine talented men and women to the Senate,” said Fletcher. “These individuals all believe in our Senate reform agenda and will work towards creating a more legitimate and democratic Upper House”

It is unacceptable to Canadians that the unelected Senate is able to block the will of the House of Commons. That is why we will appoint individuals to the Senate who support Canada’s elected government.

Manitoba’s newest Senate representative will be Don Plett, a small businessman and activist from Landmark, Manitoba. He has been married for 41 years and has four children and six grandchildren.

“I am pleased to be able to work with Don Plett and these eight new Senators to reform Canada’s Senate,” said Fletcher. “I believe all the new appointees will serve Canadians well in their new role.”
