Fletcher congratulates Philip S. Lee as new Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba

Winnipeg - The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia congratulates Philip Lee on his investiture as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Manitoba.

“Since coming to Canada in 1962, Mr. Lee has become a leader in his adopted country,” said Fletcher. “He truly is an inspiration to all Manitobans.”

Philip Lee immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1962 to study at the University of Manitoba. He has been an active leader in the Chinese-Canadian community since the early 1970s, helping to develop many programs and institutions that have bettered Manitoba as a whole. Mr. Lee has been recognized many times for his achievements, including the City of Winnipeg’s Community Service Award, the Order of Manitoba and the Order of Canada.

Mr. Lee was appointed as Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Manitoba on June 19th by Her Excellency the Governor General. Today’s ceremony at the Manitoba Legislature officially installs Mr. Lee as the 24th vice-regal representative for the province.

“Mr. Lee has demonstrated a long standing commitment to public service and has all the makings of an excellent Lieutenant Governor,” said Fletcher. “I look forward to his continued service to Manitobans in his new role.”
