–Manitobans can fix-up their properties with the new Home Renovation Tax Credit and the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program while stimulating the economy and creating jobs says the Honourable Steven Fletcher Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

“The Home Renovation Tax Credit provides homeowners with an opportunity to save money on renovation projects, such as home repairs or cottage improvements,” said Fletcher. “It also gives Manitoba small businesses the ability to grow and create jobs right here at home.”

The Home Renovation Tax Credit allows homeowners to claim as much as $1,350 in tax relief for renovation expenses costing between $1,000 and $10,000.  Projects must be completed between January 27, 2009 and February 1, 2010 to be eligible for this credit.

Manitobans can also benefit from the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program, which gives homeowners up to $5,000 to make valuable energy-efficient improvements to their homes.  This grant allows Manitobans to incorporate innovative, cost-cutting measures in their home renovation projects, which will help reduce energy consumption.  An energy advisor certified by Natural Resources Canada must conduct a residential energy efficiency assessment to determine whether homes qualify for this subsidy.

“Our Conservative government is giving Manitobans an opportunity to renovate their homes, while contributing to a strong economic recovery in Canada,” said Fletcher.
