FLETCHER WELCOMES KNOWLEDGE INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING FOR UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

(May 21, 2009) Ottawa – The University of Manitoba will receive $20 million in new funding from the Knowledge Infrastructure Program to expand research and educational facilities thanks to Canada’s government, says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia. 

The $20 million in funding announced today by Rod Bruinooge, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, will go towards a the construction of new Art Research Centre, a 60,000 sq. ft. digital technology and research facility, the second phase of the Smartpark technology park, and a Regenerative Medicine Laboratory at the Bannatyne Campus.

 “These new facilities will be a valuable resource for students and Manitobans alike,” said Fletcher. “This funding will help keep Manitoba’s post-secondary institutions at the forefront of scientific advancement and research.”

The Knowledge Infrastructure Program is part of the federal government’s two year, $2 billion dollar plan to repair and expand research and educational facilities at Canadian colleges and universities.
