FLETCHER WELCOMES TWINNING OF TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY FROM KENORA TO MANITOBA BORDER
May 15, 2009
(May 15, 2009) Ottawa –Manitobans will soon enjoy improvements to the Trans-Canada highway from Kenora to the Manitoba border thanks to a joint project with Canada’s Government and the Province of Ontario says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

“Twinning this section of the Trans-Canada will allow Manitobans vacationing or just travelling to their cottage to enjoy a safer trip,” says Fletcher.

“I am pleased that our government and the Ontario provincial government have stepped up to the plate to improve the safety of this section of highway.”

The Government of Canada along with the Province of Ontario will upgrade a 10-kilometre stretch of the Trans-Canada highway between the Kenora and the Manitoba border. The highway will be twinned, expanding it from two to four lanes. This $100-million project is scheduled to begin in 2010 with the federal government contributing $50-million.

“Infrastructure projects such as this Trans-Canada improvement help to create jobs and stimulate our economy” said Fletcher. “This is another way that our government is looking out for Canadians.”
