April 14, 2009

(April 14, 2009) Winnipeg – Winnipeg will soon become one of North America’s most important trade centres thanks to the CentrePort Canada initiative introduced by Canada’s Government says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

“Winnipeg is strategically located in the middle of North America and a natural location for an international trade hub,” said Fletcher. “By investing in Centreport we are creating jobs for Manitobans now and positioning Manitoba for a bright economic future.”

Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Gary Doer announced federal and provincial funding for the CentrePort Canada initiative. This project will turn the James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and neighbouring area into a major trade centre used to import and goods from Asia and Europe and distribute them throughout Canada by air, rail and road.

“Projects proposed in our Action Plan such as the CentrePort Canada initiative will help stimulate our economy and create jobs for Canadians” said Fletcher.
