ACTION PLAN PROVIDES $340 MILLION IN INCOME TAX RELIEF FOR MANITOBANS
February 02, 2009
(February 2, 2009) Ottawa –Canada’s government is leaving more money in the pockets of Manitobans by providing $340 million in income tax relief over this year and the next five fiscal years says Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia Member of Parliament, Honourable Steven Fletcher.

“Our government is providing real tax relief to Manitobans that need it the most,” said Fletcher. “Low and middle class Manitobans will keep more of their hard earned through income tax relief announced in the Economic Action Plan.”

Budget 2009 provides income tax relief through increases in the upper limits of the two lowest personal income tax brackets as well as a 7.5 per cent increase in the basic personal amount from the current level, effective January 1, 2009

“Our government acted early to support Canada’s economy by cutting the GST from 7% to 5%,”said Fletcher. “Now we are providing targeted tax relief to those who need it the most.”

Manitobans can now earn $10,320 in 2009 tax free, which is up from the $9600 personal amount allowed in 2008.
