HOME RENOVATION TAX CREDIT GOOD FOR HOMEOWNERS AND ECONOMY

(January 30, 2009) Ottawa –Manitobans can now get a credit on their home renovations thanks to the Home Renovation Tax Credit introduced in Canada’s Economic Action Plan says Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia Member of Parliament, Honourable Steven Fletcher.

“Whether it’s home repairs or a cottage renovation project, the Home Renovation Tax Credit, will help Manitobans save money, ” said Fletcher.

The Home Renovation Tax Credit will be available for all home renovation projects between January 27, 2009 and February 1, 2010. The 15 percent credit may be claimed on expenses over $1,000, but less than $10,000. The maximum tax credit that can be received is $1,350.

The credit can be claimed on renovation costs on one or more eligible home or cottage. Properties eligible for the HRTC include houses, cottages and condominiums. Manitobans can take advantage of the Home Renovation Tax Credit by claiming it on their 2009 tax return.
