HEADINGLEY'S STRETCH OF THE TRANS-CANADA WILL BE FIXED
January 29, 2009

Manitobans will now be safer thanks to improvements to the Trans-Canada highway through Headingley announced in Canada's Economic Action Plan says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

"The long awaited improvement to this section of highway is an issue that I have been working on for quite some time," says Fletcher.  "Now that this is a federal budget priority, I hope the province will step up and ensure this project is completed while the funds are available."

Currently this portion of the Trans-Canada is described as a 'death trap' and is two lanes going east and west with no divide. Budget 2009 will provide funding to twin this six kilometre stretch that runs through Headingley.

"This funding comes from the hard work of many people including Minister Steven Fletcher," said Manitoba MLA for Morris, Mavis Taillieu. "He took our concerns to Parliament and ensured that this important issue was included in the federal budget. His support and involvement with the Headingley community are greatly appreciated."

"Infrastructure projects proposed in our Action Plan such as this Trans-Canada highway improvement help to stimulate our economy and create jobs," said Fletcher. "This is another way that our government is looking out for Canadians."
