GOVERNMENT PROVIDES APPRETICES WITH THE TOOLS FOR SUCCESS
January 23, 2009

(January 23, 2008) Ottawa –Canada’s government knows that costs for apprenticeship tuition, travel and tools can add up quickly, says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia. That is why Canada’s government introduced the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant and New Tradesperson’s Tool Deduction.

“By providing the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant and New Tradesperson’s Tool Deduction our government enables apprentices to successfully complete their Red Seal program and enter the workforce full time,” said Fletcher.

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant is a taxable cash grant of $1,000 that is available to registered apprentices once they have successfully completed their first or second year of an apprenticeship trade program.

The tradesperson's tools deduction provides employed tradespersons with an annual deduction of up to $500 to help cover the cost of new tools necessary to their trade.
