(Winnipeg) - More jobs are being created for Manitoba students thanks to the Government of Canada’s student employment initiatives, says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.
“Our government understands that students across Canada have been affected by the global recession,” said Fletcher. “That is why we are helping to create jobs for students in Manitoba and across the country with our student employment initiatives.”
Canada’s Economic Action Plan included an additional $20 million over two years for Canada Summer Jobs. The initial $10 million created 40,000 summer jobs in Canada last summer. The Government of Canada has also provided $15 million to the YMCA and YWCA to create one thousand youth internships.
Nearly $230,000 in funding through Canada Summer Jobs created more than 130 student positions last summer in Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.
“These opportunities help students develop skills and experience,” said Fletcher. “We are continuing to create jobs for all Canadians including students.”
