Fletcher Supports Canada and Manitoba investment into South End Water Pollution Control Centre

(Winnipeg) - The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia applauds the governments of Canada and Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg’s announcement today of supports to improvements to the South End Water Pollution Control Centre in Winnipeg.

“Today’s announcement will ensure that Manitoba’s waterways remain clean and protected,” said Fletcher. “This investment will generate jobs for Manitobans and stimulate the region’s economy.”

The three levels of government will invest up to $33 million into the project as a result of today’s announcement. The government of Canada will be providing a maximum of $11 million to the project. The improvements that will be made to the South End Water Pollution Control Centre will increase capacity to handle wastewater during peak periods and protect the health of the Red River and Lake Winnipeg.

“With investments like these, our Government is helping Canadians through these tough economic times and delivering results with the Economic Action Plan that is providing more and more jobs for Canadians while stimulating the economy,” said Fletcher.
